Geoffrey North is the founder and owner of North IP.

 

Geoff was the inaugural Vice President, Intellectual Property of Intellectual Property Ontario ("IPON"; a government agency), where he provided leadership and oversaw the creation and delivery of IPON's IP services. Geoff worked with innovators, businesses, and researchers throughout the province and Canada to maximize the value of their IP and enhance commercialization outcomes. Geoff also worked closely with the province's universities, colleges, regional innovation centres, incubators, and accelerators to coordinate and improve IP services, and is well known throughout the Canadian IP ecosystem.

Prior to IPON, Geoff worked both in-house as VP IP and legal counsel and in private practice as a senior IP solicitor and litigator where his work included:

* drafting and negotiating complex agreements;

* acting as lead counsel in infringement/impeachment actions under the Patent Act;
* drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the CIPO and USPTO;
* providing freedom to operate and patent validity opinions;
* preparing and prosecuting industrial design and trade-mark applications before the CIPO;
* drafting IP license and other commercialization agreements;
* drafting IP sections of share and asset purchase agreements;
* performing IP due diligence for corporate transactions; and
* reviewing Open Source Software (OSS) license terms and preparing Notice files ...
